West Coast Holiday June 2008:
A few random pictures from our 2 week trip to the west coast
Sunset from our tent by the Fionn Loch by Carnmore
The Ghost Slabs above Fionn Loch on a very still morning.
Slightly blurry, but you get the idea of the 'Alpen Glow
The view across Fionn Loch to Carnmore
The massive rockfall area on Beinn Airigh Charr. To give you an idea of scale, ther obvious arete on the left side is a 100m high HVS.
The hills around Fionn Loch / Carnmore as we were walking out.
A Golden Plover on Ben Resipol, Sunart.
A green tiger beetle (?) which we avoided standing on while walking on Ben Resipol
The sun going down from the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan.
We stopped at Ardheslaig in Applecross for a couple of hours on our way south and climbed Very Gneiss, The Mother-in-Law and Scooby Doo. All 3 routes were excellent, and it was worth the slight detour. The picture shows Helen on the slab of Very Gneiss.
Helen at Opinan looking north towards Inverpolly.
Helen on Carapace Crack (HS *) at Opinan Slabs
Helen on the top of Wrack and Tangle (Severe), although I think that this is slightly to the left of the actual route as the rock looked more interesting!
Me setting off on a short but bold VDiff on the lower slab. We did a severe there also (Nutjuggler) which was 'interesting'!
Me soloing a Diff at Opinan Slabs. The slabs don't get many stars in the guide, but we thoroughly recommend it as an excellent place for low grade routes.
Helen at the top of Meall an Fhir-Eoin in Ardnamurchan looking towards Muck, Rum, Eigg and Skye.
