07 June 2015: Galloway and Arran Weekend Walk Summer 2015

A long weekend, combining a bit of mountain biking and a stag do on Arran.  On Friday afternoon I parked at Kirroughtree, one of the 7 Stanes mountain bike centres.  However, I initially headed for Cairnsmore of Fleet, a 711m high nearby hill.  I got to the top with a mixture of riding and pushing (more of the latter) in an hour and 20 minutes, then descended a good bit faster than that.  A short break, then off again and had a blast round the 17km red route at Kirroughtree which was great, followed by an intense drive to Ardrossan to get the last ferry to Arran.  Made it, but only just.

Saturday morning was grim, with strong winds and heavy rain.  Once everyone had arrived in Corrie, we made our way up Cioch na h-Oighe, with some wet scrambling onto the exposed ridge.  There were several points where we all had to hold on due to the wind, but once off the pointy stuff, we mucked about where the wind was being funnelled over little cols:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea3-7KU9uUw  Nick, Rob and I nipped up Goatfell on Sunday.  The weather was noticeably better, but still cold and breezy up top.  Still doesn't feel like June!

A cold wet jam crack on the way up Cioch na h-Oighe.
The rock was quite grippy.
Rod employing a handy leg jam do counteract a sudden gust. Pete was probably relying on it as well.
Gloomy on Cioch na h-Oighe.
Some good scrambling on the ridge.
Waterproofs getting a good test. We were all soaked by the end of the day.
Rob mid flight.
No camera tilting required.
