With the poor winter in full swing, an opportunity arose to join my brother on a trip to the Portes du Soleil. I was able to join the group on the Wednesday, getting a couple of hours skiing done on the day I arrived. 2 days of sunshine, with a few cm of fresh overnight inbetween made for 2 good days. The final full day was a bit wintry. We headed for the trees of Les Lindarets for a bit of shelter and powder, which was great fun. As the weather deteriorated, and the links to other valleys started to shut, the place became almost deserted. The main lift back to Avoriaz was kept open, so Gordon and I had a great afternoon getting bounced around powder covered bumpy pistes, some of which is comically recorded here: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5f88pk_storm-riders-morzine_sport Most of this was done with a bust ski after some over-enthusiastic off-piste earlier in the day resulted in a terminal (for the skis) chunk removed from the edge and core. As the snow was soft, I got away with it for the rest of the afternoon, and a couple of hours in the morning before heading home and retiring the skis.
